Abstract

Good governance and gender equity are crucial pillars for fostering a just, inclusive, and progressive society. While good governance ensures accountability, transparency, and responsiveness in public institutions, gender equity involves providing equal rights and opportunities to individuals of all genders, particularly addressing historical and systemic disadvantages faced by women. In India, despite constitutional safeguards and a plethora of schemes aimed at promoting gender parity, deep-rooted socio-cultural norms and institutional limitations continue to hinder progress. This paper examines the nexus between governance and gender equity in India by evaluating key reforms, challenges, and innovations that shape women's participation in social, economic, and political life. Drawing upon constitutional mandates, policy initiatives, and recent data, the study argues for a governance framework that integrates gender sensitivity at all levels, thereby enabling sustainable and equitable development.
